I’m a junior Communications/Public Relations student at GVSU, full-time mother of three great kids, and a working musician.  I left a full-time career as a paralegal in April of 2013 to return to school for my Bachelor’s degree.  I prayed over that decision for many weeks, and finally found the courage to sign up for spring classes and give my two weeks notice to the law firm.  It was the best decision I could have made.

There is nothing (besides family) more important to me than music.  I am the lead singer for a local band, Montage.  We play all the hits, performing at wedding receptions, corporate events, country club events, casinos, and a few large bars in West Michigan.

I have attended hundreds of live music concerts in my lifetime, and continue adding to that number.  The only music genre I am not a fan of is country music.  I don’t judge those who are country music fans, so don’t judge me.   My favorite type of music is hard rock.  There is something I find motivating and soothing about the sound of heavy guitar riffs, driving drum beats, and a blend of melody mixed with emotional screams.  I gravitate toward songs with positive lyrics, so you probably won’t find many of the bands I love on your local radio stations.

I am half Dominican and half Finnish.  I grew up on Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic until I was 5 years old.  My family moved to Jackson Heights, New York City where Dominican culture was still very much present.   The sounds of salsa and merengue were as prevalent in my home as were The Beatles and AC/DC.  And even today, I love visiting my homeland and listening to the sounds of Caribbean music.

My love for music is equal to my love for food.  FOOD!!  I am a food junkie!  If it does not contain flavor and spice, it does not qualify as food!  Cilantro, garlic, oregano, onion, peppers (the hotter the better)… are the building blocks of flavor.  I don’t cook a lot due to lack of time.  So I’m not ashamed to pay a price for good eats!
